(Seychelles News Agency) - A Taiwanese boat, the Chen Hsing 668, entered the Port of Victoria on Thursday with the dead body of one of its crew member, the Seychelles Police said.

According to the police, the dead marine is from Myanmar, also known as Burma.

Following an examination, the police discovered some bruises on the body of the 37-year-old sailor and an investigation has started to establish if he died in or outside Seychelles’ waters.

The police will only continue the investigation if there is confirmation that the sailor died in the Seychelles’ waters. From there the investigation will seek to identify the circumstances of the sailor’s death and which offence has been committed.

If the incident happened out of the Seychelles’ waters, the police said they will discontinue the investigation as they do not have the authority to investigate incidents that occur outside of the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone.

The police said that the incident was reported by the Allied Agency to the authorities in Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean.
