Fun in the sun! 7 Seychelles sports to dive into
(Seychelles News Agency) - The 115 islands of the Seychelles are surrounded by unending turquoise ocean. Sun, sand and sport. But which sport? Some of our tropical favorites can be found below. Equipment rentals can be found at resorts and stands at major beaches throughout the islands.
Scuba diving
Getting up and personal with sea creatures in their natural environment is a sublime experience. And Seychelles has dozens of amazing dive sites to see more than 300 species of fish or say hi to a friendly shark. If you’re an experienced diver then the Desroches drop is the place to try. If this is your first time do check out some of the diving school before you attempt it.
Glynnis and the team at the Underwater Dive Centre says Beau Vallon bay is suitable for beginners, given its shallow reefs and minimal currents. Longer distance sites usually appeal to experience divers. Need help planning a dive? Check out: http://diveadvisor.com/seychelles/dive-shops

Snorkeling
If you are like me and not really a deep sea person, then this is the next best thing. Just strap on a mask and flippers and do not forget a t-shirt or sun cream to prevent a lobster-red backside.
Snorkeling can be done almost anywhere in these islands of ours. If you want to see some amazing underwater species, Anse Royale in the south of the main island, Mahe, is strongly recommended. So is the Ste Anne National Marine Park and Anse Kerlan on the second most populated island, Praslin.

Kitesurfing
The oversized kites from kitesurfing pros swoop up and down the wind window as they gather power for huge jumps. The sport is fascinating to watch for those on the beach and more than a bit intimidating for beginners.
Seychelles is probably not the place to come to learn this tricky sport, given a lack of kitesurfing schools, but it's a perfect place for experienced kiters to bring their gear.

Windsurfing
Just like in kiteboarding, you need good wind and a strong sail to windsurf. You must be good at multi-tasking because in this sport you stand upright, control the sail and maneuver.
Alain Alcindor of the Seychelles Sailing Association says the best places to go windsurfing are at Carana beach in the northeast of Mahe and Roche Copra in the Baie Lazare district in the south. Amitie on Praslin and some places on La Digue are also great places, weather-depending.

Surfing
If the two above sound too complicated you can simply go surfing, but be warned we do not have exceptionally big waves. You can still catch a few modest ones, plus our beaches are less crowded so there is no-one to watch your attempt if you are new to the sport.

Water Skiing
Sure, maybe you have gone water skiing on a lake. Have you gone water skiing in the ocean? If you are into adrenaline sports activities this is one you should try. Watch tropical paradise fly by as you water ski through our turquoise waters. This is popular at resorts and beaches where equipment can be hired. More information: https://www.constancehotels.

Jet skiing
In our island we have strict rules for motorised sports and the only place you can do it on the main island is at Beau Vallon beach and the best advisable time for it is in October when there is less wind. Christopher Pillay of Aquatic Watersports based at Berjaya Beau Beach hotel says jet skiing is one of the hotel's most popular options.
