Seychelles police officers caught with stolen property

(Seychelles News Agency) - Two police officers from the National Crime Services Division have been arrested, according to a press statement from the Seychelles police.

The two officers are accused of stealing an outboard engine and a small boat from another vessel, while it was berthed at the former Seychelles Coast Guard base next to Port Victoria, the main port of the Seychelles archipelago.

"They were arrested yesterday. Both of the officers are male, one is 31 years old and one is 29 years old. The older one is an experienced police officer and the second is relatively new to the police force," the Seychelles  police spokesperson Jean Toussaint told SNA this evening.

The police says that following its investigation the stolen property was recovered.

"Two NCSD officers arrested, appeared before court this afternoon and are being remanded until Friday," reads the statement.

The police says the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Ernest Quarte, has called the acts of the two officers as 'shameful and a disgrace to the Force.'

"The decision to criminally prosecute the two suspects accentuates the organisation’s determination to rid the Force of any bad elements wherever they may exist and against those who dare to get involved in any acts of criminality," says the Seychelles police.
